Jerzy Zdrada

Jerzy Zdrada, born in 1936, is a distinguished Polish historian and academic. As a professor at the Jagiellonian University and a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, he specializes in the history of Poland in the 19th century, with particular focus on the period of the great emigration and the January Uprising. His scholarly work has contributed significantly to the understanding of Poland's historical landscape, especially during tumultuous times.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Zdrada was actively involved in political life as an advocate for democracy. He participated in the Solidarity movement during Poland's communist era and later served as a deputy in the Polish parliament from 1989 to 1997. He also held the position of Deputy Minister of Education from 1997 to 2001. His dedication to history and politics was recognized in 2006 when he received an award for his book "Historia Polski 1795-1914."
