Marek Sołtysik, born in 1950, is a multifaceted Polish artist and intellectual known for his extensive work as a poet, novelist, scenarist, painter, and art critic. Throughout his career, he has also contributed as an editor, proofreader, reviewer, journalist, and reporter. His academic pursuits included a stint as an assistant at the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts from 1975 to 1979. Currently, he shares his expertise by conducting prose workshops at the Literary and Artistic Studies program at Jagiellonian University.

Sołtysik's literary achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Reader's Prize for his debut novel "Domiar złego" in 1975, which earned a special dedication from Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz. He has also received the City of Kraków Literary Award in 1980, the Stanisław Wyspiański Award in 1985 for his overall work, and the Stanisław Piętaka Award in 1986 for his "Small Evening Poems." His collection "Jak upadają wielcy" was honored with the Kraków Book of the Month Award in October 2012. Additionally, he was awarded the "Literature" Prize for his short story "Rozpacz i drwina," among other accolades for his radio and television work. In June 2012, he was decorated with the Medal "Gloria Artis" by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for his lifelong contribution to the arts.
