Ewa Kurek

Ewa Kurek, born in Kielce in 1951, is a Polish historian with a rich academic background. She completed her studies in history at the Catholic University of Lublin, obtaining her master's degree in 1979 and her doctorate from the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. Her research has focused on the rescue of Jews by Polish nuns during World War II, under the supervision of Władysław Bartoszewski. Kurek has been actively involved in underground publications, notably editing the "Biuletyn Informacyjny NSZZ Solidarność FSC" in Lublin and collaborating with underground "Spotkania" as well as with scholars from Poland and the United States. She has also served as a lecturer at the Humanities-Economy Academy in Łódź and the Higher School of Learning in Kielce. Her work is characterized by a dedicated pursuit of historical research, often highlighting stories of heroism and the complex Polish-Jewish relations during the wartime period.

• Polish Nuns and Jewish Children – An English translation of her dissertation showing how Polish nuns saved hundreds of Jewish children during the German occupation, with notable commentary from Jan Karski. Her expanded work further explores the participation of nuns' congregations in wartime rescue operations.
• Beyond the Border of Solidarity – Her habilitation dissertation examining Polish-Jewish relations from 1939 to 1945, which presents a provocative interpretation of ghetto development and Jewish sovereignty in occupied Poland.
